An amazing event, a night to remember!
On the evening of the 29th of June, members of the IWW-CYROC and many of their fellow workers came together to celebrate our One Big Union!
119 years since the founding convention in Chicago, 119 years of militant and often bloody struggle. The Department of Studies, Education and Training made sure to underline the struggle aspect of syndicalism and the woes plaguing the working class, by screening two documentaries about the working lives of (primarily) miners in Cyprus in the 1930s, 40s and 50s; one of the two documentaries was directed by the late Andreas Konstantinides, to whom the whole event was dedicated.
However, the event was first and foremost a celebration, a celebration of endurance and willpower to keep on fighting for what’s right and decent! Members of our Committee of Internal Relations and Gender Equity made sure to provide great music, wonderful decorations, and, of course, our “traditional” RED velvet cake!
On a final note, these 119 years were primarily years of working class solidarity, something that was accentuated by the generous contributions to our solidarity fund, for our single-mother member who was recently fired from her job unexpectedly and unfairly!
